JOE AND JEZIBELL - NYC to Augusta, GA

Jezibell has been a leader in the New York City Pagan community. She has facilitated many public and private rituals, including Sabbats, full and dark moons and women's circles. Her articles and poetry have been published in Our Pagan Times, Circle Network News, The Beltane Papers and SageWoman. She worked with the Minoan Sisterhood for several years, and taught part of it in 1996. She was also active in New Moon New York and Four Winds Earth Chorus. In 1997 she began teaching the Pagan Way Grove with Joe which continued through 2003, and from 1998-2000 she also led a women's Goddess circle at the Zodiac Lounge General Store. From 2005 to 2007 she facilitated Siren's Sanctuary, a women's circle focusing on movement, rhythm, chant, song, and meditation. She has been filmed in documentaries and interviewed in newspapers about Witchcraft and women’s spirituality.

Dissatisfied with the inadequate research and sloppy presentations of many Pagan groups, Jezibell and Joe formed the tradition of Thelemic Wicca, with a strong focus on rigorous study, dramatic ritual, and a spirit of challenge. They formed the coven Kyklos ton Asterion in 1999, and in 2003 two of their initiates founded Gardin de Fios. Jezibell is also a belly dancer, writer, actress, singer and drummer, and her art reflects her spirituality (see her performance credits in the Belly dance section).

Jezibell has regularly presented her "Dances of the Goddess," belly dance inspired by the Divine Feminine, at NYC's Pagan Pride Day celebration and at the Witches’ Ball Benefit. In 2002 she performed her original Pagan musical theatre production, Inanna, Journey of Darkness and Light, and recorded the music from the show. (More information in the Inanna section). In 2005 she she presented more of her original music and choreography in "A Musical Tribute to Ancient Egypt." In pursuit of her interests in dance and history Jez has traveled to Egypt, Turkey and Morocco. She went on Carol Christ's Goddess pilgrimage to Crete and also participated in an archaeological dig at Olduvai Gorge in Tanznia, Africa (Jezibell digs Olduvai Gorge). Joseph (a.k.a. the Klingon, the Bear, Bjornkin Frievalkyr, Pan, Captain Kirk, Hagrid, Gimli, Hagrim, or simply "Joe") Zuchowski is a Wiccan elder with over thirty years of Craft experience, and he co-founded the tradition of Thelemic Wicca and Kyklos ton Asterion Coven. We are not quite certain of his time or place of birth, but we assume it was somewhere in the mysterious, mythical land of New Jersey where, as a boy, he developed a love of magick and mythology from the Ukrainian and Polish stories his grandmother told him.

He attended Jersey City State College where he majored in philosophy and religion. He also minored in history and continued his study of folklore and mythology as well as literature. It was around this time that he met his first Wiccan teacher Danni, a friend of a friend's sister. He was initiated in 1976, and because he was the youngest member of his coven to make High Priest (1979), he earned the name Captain Kirk (there are other reasons too - but we won't go into them.)

In 1984 he met the late Lord Note while the latter was teaching a series of rune classes in Manhattan. Joe continued working with Note when he taught the Pagan Way Grove from 1985 to 1987. When Note and his wife and High Priestess Granamor formed Lightning Wheel Coven, Joe was initiated into the Seax-Wiccan Tradition and received his further elevations through them. Due to external circumstances, Joe and Lightning Wheel parted ways in 1992, but he maintained his friendship with Note, who returned to teach the Grove from 1992-1994. Joe assumed leadership of the Grove in 1995 and continued until 2003. For the past several years Joe has taught rune workshops at NYC's Pagan Pride Day.

As an occult consultant, Joe has been interviewed on radio, television and in newspapers, and has been featured in documentaries regarding Paganism. His other interests include NLP, Jungian psychology, I-ching, runes, numerology, tarot, philosophy, magickal apothecary, ceremonial magick, fantasy and science fiction, ancient weaponry and movies. He has led workshops and facilitated rituals for New Moon New York, and his articles have been published in Our Pagan Times.

Joe is also an actor and has performed with the Semolina Players. He has appeared in several horror films, including a turn as a zombie in Biohazardous. He played the dual role of the jovial Enki and the shadowy Neti in Inanna, Journey of Darkness and Light, for which he created the fight choreography. Joe has studied Wong Lao Teh Gar kung fu and also holds a black belt in the martial art of kajungdo. A political activist and strong believer in the rights of individuals, he has done abortion clinic defense and marched on Washington. He has also taught women’s self-defense classes. Joe tends to growl and grumble and glower a lot, and he can lift and throw heavy things (like deserving people.) He likes challenges and loves a good argument. He believes that we should not so much perceive Wicca as a carryover from a romanticized past, but as a relevant, viable religion for today.

At the end of 2007 Joe and Jezibell relocated (with five cats and seven snakes) to Georgia and have been delighted to find fellow Pagans. They both presented workshops at Gathering of the Tribes in April, where Jezibell also performed her Goddess dance. They facilitated the Beltane ritual for Celtic Crossings and the Midsummer ritual for CUUPS, and are currently developing a drum and ritual music group, the Beltane Band.
